"Live a little Love a little" Project initiated by the RACUOCFMF

Live a little Love a little, was a project organized by the Rotaract club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance to celebrate Children’s day with a special group of remarkable young women on the 30th of September 2017. Of all crimes committed against a person, rape is a horrendous act which leaves a person violated, humiliated and broken. Even though I am unable to mention the name of the place due to legal reasons it is a home to many young women who had their lives torn apart due to atrocious acts of our society.

The girls welcomed us with big smiles and warm hearts, and it made me realise how incredibly brave they were. Listening to their life stories, hardships and daily struggle to overcome the emotional and physical abuse they’ve gone through, made me feel ashamed of how little I knew about society. Even though Sri Lanka is progressing, rape is still a stigma in our society, which is often discussed in hushed tones. While these girls are trying to better their lives step by step, they still feel that not many people are ready to understand their pain and accept them back into society.
It’s really strange how a few hours can lead you to a whole new direction. From a single moment my life was changed.

I was extremely happy to be a part of this programme. Even though it was for a few hours, for me it was a life changing experience. I hope we gave them a reason to live a little love a little………………………

A big thank you to the  Rotaract Club of University of Colombo Faculty of Management and Finance  for giving us the opportunity to be a part of a good cause.
